By Correspondent

The last of the power tussle between the Nigerian Police Force and the newly inaugurated Peace Corps is yet to be heard, as there has been a raiding of the Abuja Peace Corps office and a subsequent arrest of the National Commandant of the Corps, Ambassador Dickson Akoh.Akoh was reported to have been arrested close to midnight on Tuesday, February 28 after the police raided the national headquarters of the corps in Abuja.Newsmen received information that a training facility belonging to the Peace Corps in Kwara and Abuja had earlier been raided and shut by the NPF.Recall that the Peace Corp, a youth-based organization, was given the go-ahead to operate following a bill that was passed in that regard; but the Police has not taken their being in existence very well, hence, the raids and recent arrest of the chief. When the corps was being formally inaugurated yesterday, in the presence of the minister of Sports and Youths Development, members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, religious bodies and youth organisations, it was also observed that the police joined other security agencies to provide a peaceful atmosphere for the success of the event.Hours later, the raid was reportedly carried out.“A source within the corps revealed that Akoh was taken to the FCT command of the Nigeria Police. The reason for his arrest was not given; and the Police is yet to make an official statement regarding the brouhaha, as at time of filing this report.
