RAAMP to Facilitate Agriculture in Benue State

By James Hughes

Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) says it will construct six Agro Logistics hubs in Benue to boost agricultural activities. The State Project Coordinator (SPC), RAAMP, Engr Mone Aernyi, disclosed this in Makurdi when he led the management team of the project on a courtesy visit to Prof. Msugh Kembe, Vice-Chancellor, Benue State University (BSU) Makurdi. The coordinator said that each Senatorial District had been allotted two slots each. Aernyi said the hubs would be agriculture-based, stressing that they were areas that engaged in massive agricultural activities. “It is the desire of the project to reconstruct some major markets in the state to encourage massive agricultural activities. “We will build stores, storage facilities, provide water and solar light across most major markets in the state in order to enhance agricultural activities,” he said. He also solicited for collaboration from BSU to enable it to succeed on its mandate. “The collaboration is necessary because BSU has all it takes to support the project to enable it to deliver creditably,” he said. Responding, Kembe, pledged on behalf of the university that they were ready and ever willing to support the project because it was people-oriented, adding that it was targeted at uplifting the rural areas. “We will collaborate with you to enable you to achieve your goals. We are looking forward to a healthy and robust collaboration. “We have the best laboratories in food processing in the country. We will offer them to you to make use of them for free. “We are willing to assist you anytime you call on us. You have all my support as well as that of the university,” he said. Meanwhile, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, BSU, Prof. Godwin Achinge, commended them for their plan to construct and reconstruct both rural roads and markets. According to him,  it will go a long to improving security situations in rural areas.   Source: VON
