Rules for Matching Your Socks to Your Outfit
By James Hughes
- The Simple Rule: to avoid getting yourself into any mood of uncertainty, you can simply match your socks with the trousers you intend putting on. This can enhance your height as it creates a seamless extension of your leg that projects you as taller than usual. This doesn’t mean that the trousers and the socks should be identical in colour. They could be a shade darker or lighter, but not attention seeking.
- Do not match a colourful pair of socks with an already colourful outfit.
- Caution should be exercised in regards to the colour variation between the outfit and the socks. There should always be a balance.
- The only time a colourful pair of socks works best is with a simple tailoring or a dark pair of jeans.
- Avoid matching your socks with exact colours of your outfit like your pocket square. It looks too deliberate and without much thought.
