Ruling Party, Minister Parley over Recession, Economic Plan Implementation

In its drive to reassure Nigerians of the electoral promises made to them, All Progressives Congress National Working Committee (NWC) met with the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma to discuss ways to solve some of the topical economic issues besetting the nation.The meeting which lasted for several hours was held behind close doors and at the end, the minister told reporters that there is hope for the country moving out recession this year.Udoma also spoke on the budget implementation in line with the recently inaugurated economic growth plan.He said: “Implementation of the 2017 budget will be targeted at achieving the objectives of the ERGP and delivering on the promises of the APC and of Mr. President.“As a ministry, we will continue to strengthening our monitoring and evaluation framework ”“ covering physical inspection/verification as well as Impact Assessment of projects/programme implemented by MDAs.The minister asserted that the implementation of the ERGP will be made possible, as provided for the 2017 budget, which has already outlined capital projects in this regard.He then demand maximum support of the party’s stalwart for a smooth realization of the objectives of the 2017 budget.APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, commented before the meeting recessed for a closed-door session, emphasizing that the 2017-2020 Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) is basic to rebuilding and strengthening of the foundation of country.Oyegun said the meeting was necessary to update party members on the progress report on the economy and how soon the country would exit the current recession.He said: “We will benefit from his presentation today because what he will tell us is very important message of what we will tell Nigerians. We want to tell people about how soon the recession will ending or whether we are out of it already.“What we will tell Nigerians must be based on first hand knowledge and facts. With the presentation, we will be in position to say that this is where we are likely to be three years from now.”
