Russian Ambassador to Turkey shot dead in Ankara, Turkey

Image result for Russian Ambassador to TurkeyAndrey Karlov, Russian Ambassador to Turkey since 2013, was shot dead Monday night in front of a crowd during a speech at an art gallery in the City’s Capital of Ankara.The assailant dressed in a dark suit poised as a policeman “standing guard” behind the Ambassador.Mr Karlov, 62, was just minutes into his speech when his attacker lunged on him, shooting him at close range severally.In a televised statement, Russia’s spokesperson, Maria Zakharova announced the death of the foreign Minister soon after the incident.The perpetrator, 22- year- old Mevlut Mert Altintas, a Police officer for two years was born in Turkey.He was heard screaming “Allahu Arkbah (God is greatest) “Do not forget Aleppo, “Do not forget Syria” after he shot the Minister.“Whoever took part in this cruelty will pay the price, one by one”¦only death will take me from here.” the gunman said circling the Ambassador.In response, both Presidents Putin and Erdogan described the incident as a “provocation,” insisting the incident would not come in between an almost strained friendship.Vladimir Putin promising retribution to those concerned, said from Moscow “the crime that has been committed is undoubtedly a provocation aimed at derailing the ties between Russia and Turkey, as well as the peace process in Syria, there is only one possible response to this- the strengthening of the fight against terror and the bandits will feel it themselves.”Russia and Turkey have been actively involved in the war in Aleppo assisting in the evacuation of civilians from the war-thorn City.
