Safety Tips to Consider this Rainy Season
By James Hughes
- Always stay away from rainfall, especially when it is so heavy. This is because there could be faulty electric poles or cables waiting to fall at the slightest strike of wind storm.
- Do not leave any electric appliance on power during heavy rainfall, as thunder storm could ignite a daring flame.
- Wear thick clothing before leaving home and in case the rain starts later in the day, you find a suitable place to keep yourself warm.
- Common cold, catarrh and cough are known to have sway during rainy season, so endeavor to make available enough precautionary drugs or supplements to check them.
- Always eat warm food and get yourself high heat-conserving food warmers in case you intend to eat later in the day.
- Do not bathe in the cold. Try as much as you can to bathe with lukewarm (a neither cold nor hot) water. But if your choice is warm or hot water try not to make it a daily routine. Bathing with a neither hot nor warm water increases your chances of getting cold while the lukewarm water helps guard you against catching cold.
- Do not throw your waste in drainages or water channels, it worsen the cases of flooding and spread of diseases.
- Avoid riverine areas as the tides of water bodies rise beyond normal levels during rainy season and this could pose danger to anyone close-by. Swimming in flowing water is highly prohibited and should be discouraged.
- Always act in line with weather reports as they help give warning signs of danger.
