Saudi Arabia stages summit to host Al Bashir, Trump, others

Saudi Arabia has offered an invitation to the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who have been accused of committing war crimes, to a summit involving American President Donald Trump, and Arab and Moslem leaders.A Saudi government official said “He (Bashir) is invited,” and there is assurance that the Sudanese leader would turn up for the summit on Sunday.Trump intends to visit Saudi Arabia, which is home of Islam’s most reverential locations, and this is his first trip overseas since he assumed office in January.White House affirmed the essence of his visit is to address the assembly on his “hopes for a peaceful vision of Islam”.Bashir is yet to be tried since his indictment by the International Criminal Court in 2009 for alleged genocide and war crimes in Darfur where not fewer than 300,000 people have died.The ICC was founded in 2002 as a final arbiter in global crimes where national courts do not have the capacity or willingness to adjudicate.
