Security fears keep voters registration on hold

By

Adamawa State acting Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Salihu Ya’u, Thursday said the insecurity speculations in the Madagali Local Government Area of the state has occasioned the delay in the Continuous Voters Registration exercise in the area. Ya’u said this in Yola, when he was fielding questions from media men. He expressed his satisfaction about the turnout of people and the hitch-free conduct of the exercise in other parts of the state. “In Madagali Local Government Area, the Continuous Voters Registration exercise in Madagali Local Government Area of the state is put on hold because we are still accessing the security situation in the area. “You know what is happening there; there is the rumour of insecurity,” Ya’u remarked. He stated the effort of its officers at ensuring security by conducting stakeholders’ meeting with security men and other agencies. But according to Ya’u, it is not certain whether the commission could continue with the registration exercise in the area. The commissioner is not taking chances as he had resolved that the registration exercise would be delayed until security is guaranteed for the safety of the exercise in the area. Meanwhile, he affirmed the smooth running of the exercise in the remaining 20 Local Government Areas of the state.
