Senate Gives Support to New Pump Price

The upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly on Tuesday gave a nod to the decision of the Federal Government (FG) which had earlier jerked up the price of petroleum from N86 per litre to N145 per litre. In an executive session led by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, the Senate charged the FG to engage the labour unions so as to stop the threatened strike. The Deputy Senate President argued that the upper legislative chamber sympathised with Nigerians for the hardship which the new price of petrol will cause and called on the government to implement palliatives. According to him, “The Senate in a closed session deliberated on the increase in the pump price of PMS by the Federal Government and the threats by organised labour to embark on a nationwide strike.
