Senate orders NCC to suspend plans to increase data rate

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has suspended its supposed increase in data rate by the nation’s service providers which was supposed to be effective from today, December 1. Details following the suspension are yet to be released but reports claim that the intervention of the senate contributed immensely to the suspension.

The increase was rebuked by the senate which then ordered NCC to put a stop to it immediately.Following a tweet by Senate president, Bukola Saraki, he said ”˜We are now debating the proposed NCC data price hike on the floor of the Senate’. A link was then created to be followed if viewers were interested to watch the debate live.The Director of Public Affairs of NCC, Mr. Tony Ojobo made it known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja that the commission had suspended its plans to increase data rate.
