South African Prosecutors Commence Appeal against Pistorius

State prosecutors in South Africa have initiated an appeal against paralympian Oscar Pistorius to have his conviction jerked up to murder from culpable homicide for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day 2013.The paralympian was set free from prison into house arrest last October after serving a fifth of his five-year prison term.While the trial lasted, the state had failed to convince the judge, Thokozile Masipa, of Pistorius’ intent to kill when he fired, leading to his conviction for negligent killing or culpable homicide.
