South Sudan records deaths of six aid workers

The recent killing of six aid workers has put the total death to twelve in South Sudan in 2017 where around 5 million people are in dire need of food. CNN reported UN’s humanitarian coordinator for the country as saying that six aid workers were murdered in a waylay on Saturday.The aid workers UN coordinator, Eugene Owusu, said were journeying from Juba to Pibor before the ugly incident.Forest Whitaker is optimistic that it not too late to save South Sudan.“I am appalled and outraged by the heinous murder yesterday of six courageous humanitarians in South Sudan,” Owusu said.“These attacks against aid workers and aid assets are utterly reprehensible. They not only put the lives of aid workers at risk, they also threaten the lives of thousands of South Sudanese who rely on our assistance for their survival.”The road attack, he said, came at a time when humanitarian needs have topped the highest level in the war-torn country.Around 5 million people are in travail occasioned by famine in South Sudan, and around 100,000 are on the verge of starvation.The recent killing of six aid workers is the highest number of aid workers murdered in a one occurrence since the conflict in South Sudan began. This is in accordance to a statement released by the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.The agency made it clear that no fewer than 79 aid workers have lost their lives since the Sudan civil war began in December 2013.At least 12 deaths of aid workers have been reported in 2017
