Southampton’s coach, Puel says Virgil Van Dijk would stay next season

Southampton manager Claude Puel has confirmed the retaining of Captain Virgil Van Dijk at the Club in the next season. 

The 25-year-old Van Dijk is presently kept out of play due a foot injury he sustained in January. However, Puel affirmed he is recovering from the surgical operations he underwent.

 

Dijk got clubs’ attention with big money offers for the impressive Netherland’s international performances before his injury predicament.  Clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are hoping to seal a deal for him but Puel’s heart longs for Southampton and this he hopes to achieve when he returns next season.

 

“It was a bad injury. But now it’s OK. The surgery is finished, he can work normally, he can start the gym work and rehab to come back for next season”¦ And with us.

 

“He is our captain. He is important for us. He is fantastic player. We wait until the beginning of season to see him again on the pitch. He has a long contract and I think the directors want to keep him.” Puel said.

 

Van Dijk was signed on for Southampton from Celtic in 2015 and now holds the position of most valuable player in the Club. His contract however is extended till 2022.
