By Correspondent

Sunderland’s winger, Adam Johnson’s trial on a three-count charge of sexual activity with a child is due to begin at Bradford Crown Court on Wednesday morning. Johnson, who is also charged with a count of grooming denied all the charges. The 28-year-old England international was present at Durham Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on August 3, 2015. The hearing dealt with legal rulings, and a trial was expected to follow later that month. However, Judge Christopher Prince, the recorder of Durham, accepted that the trial could not take place then and announced February 10, 2016 as the date. The judge said details of August’s hearing could not be reported, other than to say it involved legal and administrative matters. The Sunderland-born footballer, was arrested in March 2015 after he was accused of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl. The incidents of sexual activity are said to have taken place in January 2015, while the offence of meeting a child after sexual grooming was said to have happened between December 2014 and February 2015. Johnson has so far made 20 first-team appearances for Sunderland this season, scoring twice.
