Taraba Distributes Farm Inputs For 2019 Cropping Season

By James Hughes

Taraba State government has flagged off the sale of fertilisers, rice seeds and mini-tractors to farmers at subsidised rate to boost agriculture in the state.

In a ceremony held in Jalingo on Wednesday, Taraba Governor, Darius Ishaku, stated that “considering the successes recorded in 2018, the state government added more efforts this year by purchasing the total number of 1,590MT of assorted fertilisers, 500MT of certified Faro-44 Rice seeds, 30 Nos tractors for sale at subsidised rate to farmers’ cooperative groups and 100 Nos mini-tractors for sale to farmers at subsidised rate across the state”.

He, therefore, warned those in the habit of diverting and selling the commodity, saying that anyone found guilty “will not be spared no matter how highly placed”.

According to Ishaku, the gesture was “aimed at making the inputs readily available and affordable to small-scale farmers who have low income and cannot afford the prices in the market”.
