Today’s Message: The Value of a Good Name

TOPIC: VALUE OF A GOOD NAME

Meditation:

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. (Philippians 2:9-10)

Today’s Text: Philippians 2:5-11:

A good name is a key that unlocks doors. It is more valuable than riches. It cannot be bought. When a name is mentioned, it evokes what it has achieved whether negative or positive.

We live in a world where people increasingly do not care about the import of their names. They rather tend to care about material things, money and wealth. They are ready to do anything to acquire wealth even at the expense of their name.

Every believer has been called unto a good name – the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. When this name is mentioned, glory, majesty, splendour and miracles accompany it.

On the contrary, when the devil’s name is mentioned, what comes to mind is the viper, scorpion, dragon, Beelzebub, Lucifer, the prince of darkness, corruption, etc. Jesus did something to merit His name.

What comes to mind when your name is mentioned? What emotions does your name evoke? We are in a battle of names, a battle of knowing what you live for.

Just imagine a name as a weapon of warfare. Ephesians 1:19-22 (KJV): “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places.

Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.”

This is where Jesus is seated. Each time His name is mentioned it is remembered where the father has placed Him. This is why demons tremble at the name of Jesus. This is because His name is higher than every other name. The value of a good name cannot be overemphasized.

Colossians 2:14-15 (KJV): “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”

Jesus earned His name. He spoiled principalities and powers such that when His name is mentioned His deeds surface and come to the fore, they come to play and demons scuttle away. Even the demons recognized the value of the good name of Jesus.

Heaven remembers His deeds and everyone acknowledges what His name represents. Jesus paid a price to acquire His name. Good names are earned not bought.

Prayer:

1.Pray for the grace to always maintain your integrity.

Confession:

Dear Lord, I choose to stay true to the name which I bear in you. I will never compromise.
