It is important to take care of your domestic electronic gadgets. This will make sure you get better performance from the gadgets as well as keep them looking presentable. Some of the maintenance can be done by replacing some parts that are not so vital to their operation including casings and covers. This will improve their aesthetical value. It could also involve some repairs if you are up to it. Here are top 10 maintenance tips for domestic electronic gadgets that you could employ in your home.
  • Keep your cables organized- Make sure that you organize the electronic cables of your gadgets. These include chargers, power cables and antennae cables. It will be wise to label these cables so as not to mix them up when using them. Anyone else could also use these cables and also damage the electronic gadgets. Entangled cables are annoying and will really look disorganized. They could also get damaged when disentangling them all the time. Store them by rolling them neatly, and hold them with a band or a small clip to keep them short.
  • Offload appliances- Do not clog your appliances with more than they can carry. This is both in terms of weight and power usage. If you have a power extension cable, you do not have to add an extra plug to hold more plugs on it creating a possible overload. If you have a fridge that is loaded with food and stuff, take some out and leave at least 25% of the whole space empty to keep the weight optimal or this could damage your appliances exponentially.
  • Keep devices away from direct sunlight- If you have devices that have screens and are sensitive, you will need to keep them away from direct sunlight. The screens will blot out and gadgets will malfunction often due to this problem. Keep them away and if possible use a casing if one is available especially for phones.
  • Unplug chargers- Keep your chargers off the power sockets. Some of them will use energy costing you more when it comes to bills. They can also be a health hazard if they are in open places. They will get damaged easily if they are not well handled and can be accidentally pulled. Also keep them away from the hands of children.
  • Clean your devices often- Electronic devices can be cleaned by dusting with a soft brush or by using volatile liquids to avoid damage. These include cleaning agent that has been designed for the same.
  • Replace worn out parts- You will need to replace any worn out parts of the devices and especially the cables. These could be a hazard in the home and could also short circuit your device.
  • Consult the manual- Make sure for every device you clean or repair you look at the manual to be sure. Some could be really complicated and might need to be sorted out by an electronics repair specialist.
  • Keep them from wet places- Your electronics should not be anywhere close to any dampness. Keep them away from water especially when you are doing dishes, laundry or cleaning the house.
  • Use professionals- If a device is broken down and you are not sure what the problem is, seek help from a professional to be safe. A manual will not help in this case as it will not have all the information you need for repairs.
  • Use circuit breakers- Ensure that the circuit breakers you use are certified and suitable for your electronics. You need to shop for the best circuit breakers so as to have a peace of mind when using your device.
