A Karu Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja has granted N1.6 million bail to one businessman, Andrew Adama, 34, standing trial for criminal breach of trust and cheating.The Judge, Hassan Ishaq, acknowledged the defendant bail plea with two sureties in like sum.He ordered that the addresses of the sureties must be ascertained by the court, and also ensuring that a surety must submit his or her driver’s license or national identity card with the court.The judge demanded, in addition, that one of the sureties must be at least a Grade Level 10 civil servant. The prosecutor, Mahmud Ismail, said one Saleh Yakubu had brought the case against the defendant before the Karu Police Station on March 29.The complainant, according to Ismail, said that between Sept. 2015 and July 2016, he kept a sum of N1.6 million with Adama for the purchase of plots of land in Abuja.Ismail also gathered that the complainant said the defendant issued him with land documents, later found to be non-existent.According to the prosecutor, the defendant further said he had used the money to buy a Crysler luxury car with registration number KRD 498 EA.The prosecutor assured that the police had since taken custody of the car. He also said the offences are contrary to the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal code.The accused, however, has pleaded not guilty, and the case adjourned till May 29.
