UN extends sanction terms on top Libyan government officials

Council of the European Union has extended sanctions against Libya targeting three persons for six months.The EU is committed to an inclusive political resolution under the charter of the Libyan Political Agreement favoured by the United NationsThe Council imposed restrictive measures on three persons namely Agila Saleh, President of the Libyan Council of Deputies in the House of Reps, Khafila Ghweil, Prime Minister and Defence Minister of the internationally unrecognized General National Congress, and Nuri Abu Sahmain, President of the internationally recognized General National Congress on April 1st of 2016.These persons are viewed as preventing the execution of the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) of 17 December 2015 and the formation of a Government of National Accord in Libya.The Council is concerned about the Libyan situation particularly, as it concerns acts that threatens peace, security or stability of the country and restrict the successful completion of Libya’s political transition.UN supports an inclusive political resolution under the plan of the Libyan Political Agreement that has earned EU’s commitment.
