UNIDO favours Nigerian youth for ICT training

Nigerian youths who have interests in information communication technology has been favoured by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), which has pledged support for them.The representative of the UNIDO to Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Jean B. Bakole, unveiled the support of the agency lately during his visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama with his Letter of Credence.Bakole also guaranteed the Organisation’s support to improve the capital base of women and youths involved in small and medium scale businesses.He noted that the upcoming programme UNIDO is planning for the country will hold as from this year through 2020. This also includes focusing mainly on supporting the youth as future of the country.He noted the youth’s interest in ICT, and hence said his organization would be incorporating that in its program for the country.According to Bakole, some motivations are underway to help women in small-scale businesses.“We saw that a lot of young women are involved in small businesses. We are concerned about how we can give them capacities to run their businesses. “We have to put in place, a number of incentives including the financing strategies that can help them to move ahead”, he noted.Bakole assured the Minister of UNIDO’s willingness to expanding its cooperation with Nigeria in order to translating the country’s policy thrust on industrialization.In the time being, he offered that UNIDO would be concluding projects in progress in the energy sector, capacity building and environmental protection.Yet pointed out that in order for Nigeria to play key role being a leading economy in Africa, strong policy, massive investment and industrialization are needed to drive the economy.“The major issue is that in UNIDO, we need a strong commitment of the government of Nigeria to support industrialization. There is no country in the world which has been developed without going through strong industrialization.”The foreign affairs minister congratulated him on his new job and promised government’s support in ensuring a comfortable workplace.
