University Don Denies Involvement in Murder Case

 A law lecturer at the Lagos State University, LASU, Gbenga Ojo has denied involvement in the alleged murder of a two-year-old girl, Racheal, who allegedly fell into a deep well last week in Egbeda, Lagos. In a petition by the lawyer to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Onikan Lagos, a copy of which was sent to the Vice Chancellor of LASU, Ojo claimed that his photograph was maliciously used to illustrate a story published online in Naijagists.com, indicating that he was the one involved in the incident. He, therefore, prayed the AIG to use his office to investigate the allegations, unmask the faceless blackmailers and bring them to book.In his account, one Gbenga who shares his name is a staff of the Lagos State University, Lagos, while his wife, Busayo works at the ministry of finance and lives in Abeokuta, Ogun state. The two-year-old girl, Racheal, who lived with her father at 8, Jesse Street, Egbeda, Lagos, against the wish of her mother Busayo, was playing in the compound and fell into a well, 80ft deep. She died. According to him, the matter was reported at Gowon Estate, Police Station, where the D.P.O begged them to bury the corpse. But the family of Busayo is not satisfied with the police investigation and decided to put the whole story on the internet in Naijagists.com, illustrating the story with the lecturer’s picture as the Gbenga who was involved in the incident in the publication uploaded on April 21, 2016. Denying the allegation, the lecturer said, ”˜It is true, my name is Gbenga. It is also true that I lecture at Lagos State University, Ojo. In fact, I lecture law. But definitely, I am not the Gbenga referred to in the story. I do not know any Busayo or Racheal. I am not married to any Busayo. I do not have a daughter named Racheal. I do not have a two year old daughter for that matter.’ He also denied ever having anything to do with the police investigation, claiming, ”˜My picture was interposed maliciously, contrary to section 24(1)(b) and 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc.) Act 2015.’
