Who Is Your Counsellor?

Who Is Your Counsellor?

By James Hughes

Who is your counsellor?
“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper – Psalm 1:3

A wise person

According to Proverbs 13:20, a wise person is identified by the company he keeps. Similarly, the one who keeps bad company will become a victim of their folly. Who do you associate with?  By your association, can you be termed wise? May the Lord make you wise in Jesus name.

Choice of counsellors

According to Psalm 1:3 stated above, a wise person is also identified by his choice of counselors.
“Where no counsel is, the people fall; but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety” -Proverbs 11:14
It is a big risk to embark on something you have little or no knowledge about. It is even a greater risk to seek advice from those who have no knowledge or experience about the issue at hand.

Knowledge and experience

One lesson here is that the strength or quality of your decisions is a function of the level of knowledge and experience your counselors have.Receiving advice from good counsellors means reduced risks, eliminating errors, effective time-management and prompt achievement of goals. To get the full benefit of counseling, ensure you choose the right counselors. You are where you are today because of the counsel and counsellors you choose.

Catalyst or Hindrance

Who is your counsellor?  Your counsellor would either be a catalyst or hindrance to your destination. A minister of God in his early forties regretted not having access to a good counsellor some 20 years earlier when he earned some good income as a salesman. He spent lavishly and believed that money would keep coming. The only thing to show for his years of abundance was a piece of land which his landlord compelled him to buy. All the rest was wasted! Yet there was another brother who did not earn as much but because of wise counsel started investing his little income in shares. Twenty years later, he could afford to buy cars, build houses and live a decent life. While the former well-endowed as he was was cash-strapped, the latter who was less endowed was buoyant.

What advice are you receiving?

What advice are you receiving? Another lesson from Psalm 1: 1-3 is that there is a correlation between the advice you get and your destination. If you will flourish according to Psalm1:1-3, then you must shun advice from the ungodly. Choose godly advisers; make the Word of God and the Holy Spirit your advisersSource: Pastor E.A Adeboye
