Youth group calls for peaceful co-existence in Nigeria

All ethnic nationalities in Nigeria have been called upon by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) to give peace a chance to reign by avoiding inciting comments capable of affecting the unity of the country.Special Adviser to the NYCN President, Media and Publicity, Malam Gambo Jagindi, said this in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.Jagindi, in same breath, encouraged leaders of all ethnic nationalities to avoid acts which could lead to anarchy, disorder and fear. The council, he said, was in support of peace which all displeased persons must embrace to keep the nation united.Jagindi advised all aggrieved groups of people to employ the right to freedom of speech in the expression of demands without resorting to violence, bickering and intimidation.Disagreement is expected in a multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria, according to the special adviser, but the means of easy resolution should be paramount to everyone. He said: “The appeal is particularly to Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Ohanaeze Youth Wing, Indigenous People of Biafra, Oodudua Youths, Niger Delta Youth, Arewa Elders forum and any other ethnic nationality that may want to join forces.“It is only in an atmosphere of peace that a meaningful development can be achieved and we are better together as Nigerians.”
