Emefiele Calls for Creation of 1 Million Jobs for Fresh Graduates

By Correspondent

Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has called on all Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in Nigeria, to create over a million job opportunities for fresh graduates. Making this known at the opening ceremony of the Bankers’ Committee retreat, the CBN boss admonished Managing Directors (MD) of banks and Directors of various departments to design appropriate ways to get this accomplished, and to stop believing that young graduates will take loans and will not repay.  The Governor also reiterated that the job creation initiative would be a joint support from the CBN, the Nigerian banks and development institutions in terms of giving out cheap and concessionary loans to companies that are in the Micro-Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMSE) categories. According to Emefiele, “We need to develop a skill that will work for these young people, where they will take a loan and pay back.”  To ensure transparency and authenticity, he stated that the Bank of Industry has already designed a scheme where the fresh graduates’ bio-metric data, university and NYSC certificates would serve as collateral for loan allocation.  Emefiele further commented that; “there are no more jobs out there. Let’s give them a chance. I believe that we can do this.”
