350 Players for Asoju Oba Tennis Cup

Three hundred and fifty players have been scheduled to  compete in  the 48th Asoju Oba Molade Okoya-Thomas Table Tennis Championships at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in  Lagos from  November 21 to 25.

Sponsors of the tournament, the family of the late Sir Molade Okoya-Thomas, said the players would compete  in the cadet, intermediate and  senior categories, as well as  in  the  men and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles.Veteran players, para table tennis players,  administrators  and the sportswriters will also play in the tournament.Representative of the family, Deji Okoya-Thomas, who spoke at a conference in Lagos on Tuesday, said the competition would  see an increase in the prize money.He said, “In line with the tradition of the championship, there will be cash and material prizes for the Most Valuable Players in both the male and female events. There will be a new trophy for the women’s singles winner, which will henceforth be called Lady Olivet Okoya-Thomas Women’s Trophy.“The prize money for this year will see an increase from that of last year,  hence we expect a higher level of competition from the players.”
