Five migrants were found dead off Turkey’s western coast near Aydin province. This happened on Tuesday, after their boat was said to have capsized in the Aegean Sea, leaving 16 migrants missing. The Turkish Coast Guard was said to have recovered five dead bodies from the water and rescued one migrant. The coast guards were said to have been assisted by a fisherman who informed them that there are dead bodies floating. The rescued migrant revealed that there were 16 migrants on the boat. Aegean Sea has in recent times experienced; 28 migrants and 12 human smugglers were caught during two different police operations in the Ayvalik district in the Aegean province of Balikesir. Smugglers with a motorboat and eight vehicles, including two taxis, were apprehended during the operations by District Police’s anti-smuggling and organised crime teams. The smugglers were said to have attempted to transport the migrants to the Greek Island of Lesbos through Turkey’s Cunda Island. 24 smugglers have been arrested since the beginning of 2016.
