Account Freezing: Fayose Takes EFCC, Zenith Bank to Court

The apparently angry governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday, took the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and Zenith Bank Plc to court over the freezing of his accounts. The governor’s suit was instituted through his lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome at a Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The Ado-Ekiti division of the Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Taiwo Taiwo gave an order that the EFCC and Zenith Bank should appear before it on July 4 to show why the demands of Governor Fayose on the freezing of his accounts should not be granted. The judge further declared that he has an understanding that the applicant (Fayose) enjoys immunity and that the court can adjudicate on the matter as canvassed by the counsel to the plaintiff, just as he declared that the relief being sought is a mandatory order of the court. Fayose is particularly praying the court to de-freeze his accounts.
