In a statement jointly signed by Abba Ocheme, Olayinka Abioye and Francis Akinjole on behalf of the three unions, the strike will last until the Arik Air management pays off the arrears and provide a commitment on when the payment would be made. The unions also called for the total unionisation of all Arik workers to comply with labour laws in accordance with the constitution of the country. Also, the union asked the Arik management to bring back all sacked workers who had been allegedly victimized for their roles in the effort to bring about unionisation in the company.Other issues the unions want addressed before calling off the strike include the review of all employees remuneration which has remained the same since the airline started 10 years ago and immediate commencement of negotiations on the condition of service.Others are remittance of pension, tax and statutory deductions to the appropriate authorities and compliance by the management of the carrier with the expatriate quota law.The Arik Air’s spokesman, Mr. Ola Adebanji could however not be reached for comments when contacted.
