ASUU Knocks Osun, Oyo Governors over Poor Funding

By Correspondent

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso chapter, has criticised the careless attitude of both Oyo and Osun states on the release of subventions to the institution. These issues, among other matters arising, were discussed during the union’s congress held on Tuesday, and signed by its Chairman, Dr. Oladele Abiodun Olaniran. They also expressed their displeasure with regards to Mr. Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s irresponsible treatment, adding that they owed the general public the painful truth on the state of affairs.Dr. Olaniran said it was no longer sustainable to pay salaries through Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as this was having serious effects on other activities of the institution which were not supposed to be compromised under any guise. In his opinion, the non-release of subvention had led to a backlog of various allowances such as Earned Academic Allowances and promotion arrears, because the IGR that was supposed to be used for these allowances are diverted to pay staff salaries.
