Cameroon forward Christian Mougang Bassogog has been named  the Most Valuable Player of the Africa Cup of Nations Gabon 2017. Egypt’s Pharaohs, the losers at the final scooped the fair play award.

The 21-year-old MVP who plays for a Danish clubside AaB Fodbold as a midfielder was influential to Cameroon winning the championship.Cameroon beat Egypt  2-1 win over Egypt in the final on Sunday at the Stade de l’Amitie in Libreville.Bassogog, left, against an Egyptian playerBassogog, who came to the competition to avenge Cameroon’s loss to the Pharaohs in the 2008 finals, was named the best player of the competition by the CAF Technical and Study Group.He would not have been at the competition, as he was one of the many ”˜second-choice’ Cameroon players who only got their chance to travel to Gabon after eight first-team members withdrew prior to the tournament.Among the players that abandoned Cameroon for club duties is Liverpool’s defender Joel Matip.
