For making blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad during a Maulud festival held on June 31, 2015, a Kano Higher Sharia Court has sentenced Abdulaziz Dauda, to death by hanging. The court arrived at the decision after finding him guilty of blasphemy. It would be recalled that a lower Sharia court had earlier slammed the same sentence on Dauda. The convict was apprehended on August 18, 2015 in Abuja, and subsequently taken to Kano, where he was made to answer to a two-count charge of blasphemy and inciting crisis that resulted to the burning of a Sharia court and some vehicles.
