CJN blast DSS on arrest of judges, says action sad, regrettable

Recall the DSS, had on Friday night and in the early hours of Saturday reportedly arrested  someSupreme court justices, Appeal and High Court judges over corruption allegations.Speaking at a valedictory court session held in honour of a retiring Justice of the Supreme Court,Justice Suleiman Galadima, Mohammed described the action of the DSS as regrettable.The CJN, while speaking at the ceremonial courtroom of the Supreme Court in Abuja, said theNational Judicial Council would meet on Tuesday to take a position on the incident.According to Mohammed, “My lords, invited guests, ladies, and gentlemen, not to detract fromthis occasion, it is indeed very saddening and deeply regrettable, the distressing and unfortunateincident which occurred on Friday, October 7 and Saturday, October 8, 2016.“However, I must ask all Nigerians to remain calm and prayerful, as an emergency meeting ofthe National Judicial Council, which will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) will comprehensivelylook into the matter.“Furthermore, I must express my sincere appreciation to the executive of the Nigerian BarAssociation ably led by the President, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), and indeed all members ofthe legal profession for their prompt action and continued support.”
