According to the Cypriot foreign ministry crisis centre, the EgyptAir Flight 181 hijacker has been arrested; he is now in police custody. After several hours of holding the eighty passengers’ hostage, they have all been freed. The EgyptAir plane en route Cairo was diverted to Cyprus by the demands and threats from the hijacker who claimed he had an explosive belt on him. Egyptian authorities revealed the hijacker’s identity; Egyptian national, Seif El Din Mustafa. The representative from the Cypriot foreign ministry crisis centre, Homer Mavrommatis said the hijacker, Seif Eldin Mustafa, was “unstable” and didn’t have explosives on him. “He kept on changing his mind and asking for different things.“For the officials, it couldn’t have ended any better, with the hijacker now in custody. The plane is still being searched and the hijacker’s motivation is still not clear. Mavrommatis added.
