The death of a notorious armed robbery suspect, who operated between Enugu and Abakaliki, Chukwuemeka Ugwu, has been confirmed by the Enugu State Police Command. The said robbery suspect was killed after a gun duel with the police.In a statement issued by the Command’s PRO, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, he confirmed the death on Thursday in Enugu.According to Amaraizu, the hardened criminal had served many years of prison sentence in Enugu and Abakaliki prisons lately.“In the morning of March 28 and through intelligence information, the armed robbery kingpin, Chukwuemeka Ugwu, alias Akpuike, was trailed by police anti-robbery squad to his criminal hideout at Aguowa axis of Trans-Ekulu in Enugu.“It was ascertained that gunfire exchange occurred between the suspect, his cohorts and the police anti-robbery squad when they saw the police operatives.The spokesman remarked of how the suspect was overpowered by the police, who had laid ambush for him in a well-coordinated operation.“The superior fire power of the police operatives resulted to the armed robbery kingpin sustaining serious injuries.“The suspect was promptly rushed to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku/Ozala for medical attention,” he remarked.The police spokesman said the doctor on duty later confirmed that he was dead.
