Father arrested for placing hot knife on childrens’ stomachs for allegedly stealing fish

By Akinwande OnadekoThe inhuman punishment meted out by a father on his children has strongly received criticism. Alhaji Kasali Mamuni, the father of two children reportedly placed a hot red knife on the stomachs of his two children over the allegation of them stealing fish.

Reports were gathered that Mamuni has married thrice but none of his wives have lasted more than three years before they are sent packing with their children.According to Vanguard News, Kasali returned home from work only to discover that the fish in the pot had been consumed without any left for him, one of the children had eaten half of the remaining fish left in the pot while the stepmother ate the remaining half after returning from where she sold herbs at the motor park. It was when Kasali was served food without fish that the trouble started.It was gathered that the stepmother accused the two children of having eaten the remaining fish reserved for Kasali before she returned from her shop. It was also gathered that the woman was the man’s third wife and yet to have a child and was always fond of asking the husband to take the children back to their mother as their presence always made her uncomfortable in the house.Angered by what he was told, he beat the children silly and went to heat up the knife on a stove. When the knife became red hot, he placed it on the stomachs of the children who cried and begged their father to remove the knife which he refused to. Their cries attracted neighbours who rushed to the scene only to be told to mind their businesses by the father.A neighbour then informed the officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who later rushed to the scene to rescue the children. They were then taken to the Ondo State Hospital by the officials who reported the incident to the Welfare Department of the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs.The mother of the children has however relocated to Akure to take care of the children following the ill treatment by their father.An official of the NSCDC has confirmed that Kasali has been arrested for inflicting injuries on his children.
