As America strains under the weight of Covid, Black Lives Matter, a struggling economy – and to crown it all, a presidential election in November, Franklin Graham has declared a prayer march in the nation’s capital.
Sharing on Twitter, Graham stated, “I’m announcing today that on Sept. 26, I’m going to be in our nation’s capital to pray—& I hope thousands of families, pastors, & churches will join me! Our nation is in trouble, & we need God’s help. Make plans now to come for #PrayerMarch2020.”
Franklin Graham is the current president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, the Christian relief organization that has just shipped 26 tonnes of critically needed supplies into Beirut.
Graham also posted a video to the Billy Graham website.
“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” (John 3:17-19)
“I’m asking you to come and join me on the mall. We’re going to pray for this nation. Our nation’s only hope is God. It will take us about two hours, but we are going to pray as we march.”
The call to prayer is honorable, however, at a time when authorities are admonishing people to self isolate so as not to spread the virus, there are calls to see the event be done virtually. This would practically prevent the risk of increased infection by joining together in the thousands.
