The Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate (CPPM) has termed as “barbaric, crude, irresponsible, provocative, inciting, reckless, and unguarded” the walkout staged by lawyers to Senator Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Thursday. The statement signed by Nelson Ekujumi, the Executive Chairman of the group, reads in part that:“We also condemn in strong terms, the unruly, uncivilized, barbaric, provocative, irresponsible and dishonourable conduct by the lawmakers who accompanied Senate President Bukola Saraki to his trial, by openly abusing the dignity and tranquility of the temple of justice by not observing public decorum which they are supposed to exhibit in their conduct.“We regard the action of the honourable legislators in this regard as irresponsible, demeaning of their status as representatives of the Nigerian people in a democracy and an attempted act of intimidation of the judiciary which is condemned.”The group therefore demand the immediate investigation of the utterances and actions of learned counsel to Senator Saraki. It also calls for the immediate strengthening of security around judges who are being assaulted and intimidated daily. The group also demand an immediate investigation and meting of appropriate sanctions by the NBA against the counsel of Senate President Olubukola Saraki at the CCT. It also call on the code of conduct tribunal to disallow unruly legislators entry into the courts at further sittings of the trial of Senate President Olubukola Saraki.
