THE IMPORTANCE OF EVENTS SCHEDULING

THE IMPORTANCE OF EVENTS SCHEDULING

By James Hughes

Events are always around us, and we are sometimes mandated to attend based on the relevance. There are occasions when we do not have other options than to attend for the sake of the role we have to play, the benefits we are likely to get, or the closeness we share with the organizers. But what is event scheduling in the first place? We know what event means- an occasion, happening etc.; and to schedule is to plan. It is making arrangement as to what (event), when (time), where (place) and how (means or process). Scheduling also has to do with listing your events as per time and day and for easy follow-up, in an order of importance. Every individual has a particular way of doing this. Some persons, especially those who attach much value to events, which of course is needful and expected of us, have special ways of displaying them. Others rely on memory to recall upcoming events, which sometimes fails, owing to other closely appealing activities competing for attention.Scheduling events is advisable; it helps to safeguard losing out from major activities. You cannot be excused in some cases. How do you explain to your audience as a keynote speaker for not showing up just because you forgot you had such role to play? Consider the cost and unquantifiable embarrassment you would incur when you also miss your flight to a distant destination, where you are meant to lead a group of company executive members on a tour visit to a new branch. What about failing to appear at a court as a witness to save someone who only banks on your testimony in a crucial lawsuit? The instances are limitless; but we can guard against them, if only we schedule our events beforehand.Be mindful also that scheduling could be done wrongly, when you anticipate a later than the set time for an event. So, endeavor to get or place the real time while planning to attend an event. Same way, do a follow-up to ensure there are no changes made along the way. Means of Scheduling EventsQuite a number of these means are handy here. Broadly speaking, we have two main types, namely manual and automated.
  1. Manual means of scheduling events include:
  2. A portable pocket diary: This is an easy-to-carry booklet, which can serve veritably as a document for event listing. As you carry your pocket diary along with you, scheduling becomes an everyday habit; and it becomes hard to forget upcoming events. You have a ready access to it anyways.

  1. To do list:
Writing and placing of events on a sheet of paper, where you can easily see it, has been a good practice for some people. You can have certain convenient places in your office and home, especially where you often sit, and have the list pasted opposite your sitting position.
  1. Sticker/Slip:
This could be in varying shapes and sizes, but not too obvious for other people to see. Of course, it is your event and not theirs; hence, make it a small size for you alone. You can paste it on or slot it in your car’s dashboard, bag, book, etc. But you must make sure the surfaces where you put the sticker/slip are always within your reach any time.
  1. Automated Means are:

  1. Mobile Phone alert:
Mobile phones have features on them which give you the ability to enlist your events or appointments for a later date when they pop up for your notice. Use them very well.
  1. Email:
Electronic mail too has provisions where you can set the notice for upcoming events, and immediately such comes on, you get the notification. Also note that this is editable, so you can change whatever you have put in previously for a new event.
  1. To do list:
Like the manual means, to do list can also be done on electronic devices such as a mobile phone. With the selection of the subject, priority, specified due date and time, as well as the alarm type, you are sure to get the peep according to what you have set.
  1. Alarm:
Just like the mobile phone alert, alarm setting can help remind you of events you are billed to attend. If these tips are properly applied, you will become a master at events scheduling.
