Jimoh Ibrahim Sends Newswatch Workers Packing

By Correspondent

The publisher of Newswatch Times, initially known as Daily Newswatch, Jimoh Ibrahim has fired virtually the entire workforce of the media organisation apparently to begin an online publication. A very reliable source (name withheld) told our correspondent that the publisher had issued cheques in various sums to the aggrieved workers as what he (Ibrahim) termed as the final payoff. It was also gathered that Jimoh Ibrahim who allegedly refused to pay the title editors comprising the Daily Editor, Saturday Editor and Sunday Editor, relocated them to the National Mirror which is a sister company. “By this arrangement, National Mirror now has two Daily, Saturday and Sunday Editors,” our source added. Our source further revealed that what the former workers got as pay-off was not up to 60 percent of what they are being owed by the management of the company. It was further learnt that the publisher (Jimoh Ibrahim) had earlier reduced salaries of all workers and eventually paid only about 35 to 40 percent of the half salary as the final payoff. Our source also explained that the aggrieved workers were made to sign what he termed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that what is remaining is the final payoff, even as he threatened that nothing would happen if he takes a decision not to pay the affected workers.
