Tension looms in University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) over the report of a missing 200 level student of the institution.Prior to this development, the Kwara State Fire Service and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had commenced a search for the student.The student was declared missing last Saturday after attending a keep-fit exercise organised by the “Man o War” club of the university.The student, whose name is Onikenku Michael Atunde, from the Department of Science Education, was declared missing after he was said to have entered a river located behind the Park and Gardens area of the institution.It was gathered that the school authorities have contacted the student’s next of kin.Alhaji Kunle Akogun, a representative of the university, in a statement issued on Sunday, said: “A member of the Man o’ War club was reported to have been calling for assistance in the river flowing behind the Parks and Garden Unit early Saturday.“Rescue effort coordinated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Nike Ijaya, was immediately mounted, and the search is ongoing. Medical services have been on standby since yesterday.”It is feared that the student might have drowned at the university’s dam site.
