Mother and Child detained over stealing plantain

The Nigeria Police in Ikorodu Local Government, Lagos has detained a mother and her one year old baby for stealing plantain from Agbowa Market in Ikorodu.

It was learnt that they were detained at the Police Station after being apprehended at the market by traders for stealing their goods.Upon interrogation, the mother confessed that she had resorted to stealing after all her efforts to seek her daily bread proved futile. After several days in detention, she was lucky to have the State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni pay an unscheduled visit to the station to ascertain their law enforcement procedures.Troubled by the effects of the cell on the child, the woman was immediately ordered released by the Commissioner who also gave her N10,000 as he wasn’t satisfied with her state of health and offence.He however made her sign an undertaken never to engage in such an act again.
