Nigeria Military Engage in fierce battle with Boko Haram insurgents; at least 15 insurgents feared dead

At least 15 Boko Haram fighters were reported dead on Friday as the Nigerian troops of Operation Lafiya Dole and Boko Haram terrorists engaged in a prolonged fierce battle in Borno State.

According to Premium Times, military sources said the battle began at 6 am and lasted till after 9 am.It was reported that the battle began when the fighters of the terrorist group launched a surprise attack on troops location in Rann, Northern Borno, shooting sporadically.The soldiers responded promptly, killing an unknown number of terrorists and wounding several others, the battle went on for over two hours and when the dust settled, several lifeless terrorists were found.According to Premium Times, a source reported that more than 15 Boko Haram fighters were killed in action while another source said the figure was higher with many other terrorists fleeing the scene with gunshot wounds.Both sources however confirmed that four Nigerian soldiers were wounded and an air ambulance had been sent to evacuate a critically injured soldier.Arms and ammunitions recovered from the scene include:  2 AK47 rifles, 4 FN rifles, 1 M21 rifle, 110 x 7.62MM NATO ammunition, 20 x 7.62 MM special, 40 x M21 rounds, 4 x FN extra magazine and two locally made explosives.The Friday’s battle is the first since the military overpowered and chased the terrorist group out of the Sambisa Forest, a site where the terrorist group launched attacks on Nigeria for years.
