Nigeria secures EU partnership on human trafficking

Nigeria’s National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has secured the partnership of the European Union (EU) in checking human trafficking concerning women and children.The Director General of NAPTIP, Mrs. Julie Okah-Donli said this while receiving a representative group of the Spanish embassy in Nigeria at the NAPTIP headquarters in Abuja.She maintained that the Agency is devoted to reducing cases of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants on all fronts.Mrs. Oko-Donli restated of the agency’s resolve to secure Nigerians against lurking traffickers locally and internationally.The DG solicited the provision of intelligence information on the activities of traffickers by the European Union and other international bodies to assist in checking them.“We want them to be exposed and made to face the wrath of the law”Â she stated.Oko-Donli however maintained that the ugly occurrence of trafficking could be checked by the cooperation of the agency and international community.“We implore you to join hands with the agency in the area of intelligence sharing aimed at exposing those foreign based human traffickers also”Â  She said.The Director General also said her agency is working closely with the Spanish authorities for the design of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to initiate a project on how to drastically check the problem of trafficking in persons.Mr. Raphael Mouib, the leader of group said the European Union (EU) would start the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) project aimed at addressing notable human trafficking issues concerning Nigeria and the European Union.
