Nigeria’s Foremost Etiquette Icon Launches Premier Book on Manners

Mrs Mavi Isibor, Nigeria’s foremost Etiquette Icon, yesterday launched a book on etiquette and personal branding titled, The Art of Refinement, in an elaborate event held at Poise Nigeria Limited in Lekki, Lagos. When giving her speech on the dream behind the book, Mrs Isibor noted that the reason for writing the book, which is its first in Africa, is to address the dearth of matters concerning etiquette among Nigerians and non-Nigerians alike. She stated that the book is coming at a time when the need for such values has reached its peak.Several speakers lauded the author’s efforts and commended her for her courage in getting “the word out there”.Book reviewer and ace broadcaster, Adesuwa Oyenokwe, noted that, “The need for etiquette is stronger than ever before. We must never settle for less in the typical Nigerian situation where we often ignore manners.”She also said, “If everyone creates a sense of sanity, in a short while Nigeria will be engulfed in sanity.” She spoke on several social situations where people display socially unacceptable standards, but are passed for what she described as the “Ko-mean” (It doesn’t mean) syndrome. She continued: “This is the first ever book I know written by an indigenous African or Nigerian on etiquette. I am proud to be associated with this.”Other speakers also spoke loftily about the book and its author. Professor Pat Utomi, Chairman, Poise Nigeria Limited; Mr Muda Lawal, DG, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Mr Ify Sekibo MD/CEO, Heritage Bank (represented by Mrs Oluwatomi Ojo) and a host of others were present to witness the occasion.
