Nnamdi Kanu’s parents want son released without conditions

By

Parents to IPOB leader, EZE Israel Kanu and Ugoeze Sally, have rejected some of the conditions attached to the bail granted their son by a Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday.Isreal Kanu and wife said this to newsmen Tuesday in Umuahia, describing the conditions as “too stringent and awkward.”They have urged the Federal Government to release their son unconditionally, saying the conditions were pointers to the unwillingness of the government to let their son off the hook. The couple, who addressed newsmen at their palace in Isiama-Afaraukwu community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, said it was unheard of to require a foreign surety in a local matter.“It has never happened anywhere in the world that a person standing trial for an internal matter would be asked to procure a foreigner as surety. From where do they expect those sureties to bring the hundreds of millions of naira the judge has stipulated,”Eze Kanu said.He gave assurance that his son, Nnamdi, would remain in Nigeria to face his trial if granted bail while stressing futility of the stringent conditions of the bail. The traditional ruler said although the family was happy that their son had been granted bail, the conditions attached to his release from prison had cast a question mark on the sincerity of the government to release him.He urged Ndigbo to rally round his son until he regains his freedom. On her part, Kanu’s mother said even after her son might have regained freedom, she would not encourage him to back out of the struggle for the actualisation of Biafra.According to her, “He will carry on. No retreat, no surrender. Biafra should be actualised.”
