NNPC foils tanker drivers’ strike action

By

The foiled industrial action by the tanker drivers’ arm of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has necessitated a dialogue with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to resolve issues raised by the aggrieved sect. The meeting came after the drivers had already commenced the strike action to enforce the implementation of their need for improved welfare. At the weekend, the union had announced the withdrawal of its services, which was considered another attempt to cause fuel supply crisis in the country.According to the National President of NUPENG, Mr Igwe Achese, he said the protest was a result of the poor working conditions, welfare and other necessities.Mr Achese further said the Federal Government has turned a deaf ear to numerous pleas made by the union to help improve the welfare of the drivers. It was also gathered that no activity has taken place at the depots today.Already, FCT residents were reportedly experiencing the effect of the strike action, as queues were noticed at some petrol stations.
