Ogbeni Aregbesola: The New Face of Development and Visionary Leadership

By Correspondent

When the journey to lead the land of Omoluabi was to begin, Aregbesola had to disguise to come for the launching of his political movement, because there was a serious man-hunt for him and other promoters of the Oranmiyan group. No thanks to the collaboration of the ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Olagusoye Oyinlola government in Osun state. They contrived schemes to arrest and prosecute him with the ultimate aim of stopping the visionary ambition of Oranmiyan’s true heir.On becoming the governor, it took Ogbeni Rauf eight months to constitute his cabinet. Abused and scorned that he was ill-prepared for the task, the talk of prodigals and armed robbers, the political ”˜strategistst’ used the period productively to save money to embark on his passionate and inspiring infrastructural projects which is a necessity for the economic growth of the state.By now, we know a visionary from a scoundrel. He took the baton from Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s visionary ocean and swung into a long night of continuous social development and beautification. The massive construction of roads is unprecedented: history reminds us how the Commonwealth of Osun was spent on thugs and parties in Okuku. His investment in schools for generations unborn is undeniably Roman-like and Greek-like in quality, while the deployment of resources into agriculture is also a force to reckon with.In spite of the global economic downturn occasioned by the tsunamic fall of global oil prices of crude oil, Ogbeni’s head remains unbowed. He keeps scoring goals in infrastructure. Elementary schools, middle schools and high schools are at various stages of completion. O-meal is a shining example of Omo iya Olobi’s welfarist principle. In the Middle of cash crunch, Ogbeni continues feeding about 300,000 pupils in public schools daily. 3,000 caterers have been empowered through Aregbesola’s O-meal programme alone.  With eggs, chicken, cattle heads and fruits and so on consumed daily, Aregbesola is preserving healthy future leaders through balanced diet.Let’s stand up for the future. Let’s march for the future.”˜No government has done what we attempted in Osun as this could be justified with our landmark achievements in various sectors of the economy,’ Aregbesola stressed. As Oranmiyan’s descendant marks his birthday today, one cannot but wish Omo iya Olobi more grace.Kolade Gbolagade is a social commentator and public affairs analyst.
