Pochettino seeks contract extension at Tottenham

Argentine and Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino has shown interest to extend his stay at the club. Regarded as a charismatic manager, the fans should expect to see him next season after he made his decision to extend his contract on Wednesday. The 45-year-old, who was previously in the La Liga with Espanyol and later had a stint at Premier League side Southampton spoke at a press conference that he would not call it quit even if he wanted to, since there is no such provision in his contract. Pochettino was a former central defender with 20 caps including at the 2002 World Cup, and has led Tottenham to another title challenge but was defeated by Chelsea. This has raised speculations about him leaving for Serie A side, Inter Milan. “There is no buy-out clause in my contract, I will stay here next season,” said Pochettino. “There are many rumours, but I am committed with the club, no reason to leave the club. I will be here for pre-season.” Pochettino, also led Spurs to the FA Cup semi-finals, which they lost out to Chelsea and with his experience so far, he said more still need to be learnt for the team to convert a near miss into winning the title in subsequent season. Spurs has been a hard nut for Chelsea in their meetings in the past weeks as they proved against Leicester before the lost of form towards the last few games which made them give away chances to Arsenal, leaving them in third position. They could finish as runners-up this season ahead of Arsenal for the first time in 22 years. “We were so close again this season, but like last season it was not enough.” “I am sure next season we will try again to fight. We need to do better, be stronger, improve in every area to try to win.” Pochettino said.
