Rape: Man to Spend Seven Years in Prison

A Benin Magistrate Court, presided over by Magistrate (Mrs.) Igho Braimoh, on Wednesday ordered 35-year old Stanley Edomwonyi to spend seven years behind bars over his involvement in the rape of a nine-year old girl (name withheld).Prior to this decision, lawyer to the state, Mrs. O.R Ewemade notified the Magistrate that the convict got involved in the crime on October 24, 2013.Edomwonyi was specifically dragged to court for rape of the teenager. The Prosecution argued that rape is a contravention of Section 218 of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Vol. II laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.
