Saraki Re-arraigned on Amended Charges

By Correspondent

The president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki was on Thursday re-arraigned by the Federal Government on an amended three-count charge of alleged false asset declaration before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). He, however, pleaded not guilty to the fresh charges. According to the new charge, Saraki is being accused of abusing office when he held sway as Kwara State governor between October 2016 and May 2007 when he obtained a loan from GTBank to acquire property at No. 17A and 17B McDonald Street Ikoyi, Lagos. Counsel to the FG, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), argued that the senate president failed to declare the property which was allegedly acquired at N497.2 million. Saraki was further accused of failing to declare his leasehold interest in property located at No. 42, Remi Fani-Kayode Street, Ikeja, Lagos allegedly acquired through his company Skyview Properties Company. The senate president was also accused of allegedly receiving a monthly salary between June 2011 and October 2013 when he was Senator. The matter has been adjourned until May 10, 2016, for the continuation of trial.
